Meeting the German Consul in Chennai
On Saturday 1 April, the Consul General Mr. Achim Fabig invited the Consular Corps to a reception at the Madras Club.
In the course of the evening various speakers from Auroville gave an overview of their numerous engagements and the ideals behind Auroville.
The Consul General of Germany, Chennai, Mr. Fabig hosted a delegation of the Auroville Foundation represented by the Secretary of the Auroville Foundation, Dr. Mohan Verghese Chunkath, I.A.S officer (Rtd), ex- Chief Secretary Tamil Nadu, two members of the Auroville Working Committee, Mr. Hemant Lamba and Mr S. Ranjith, and residents of Auroville for a presentation on the relevance of Auroville for India and the world in a time of global crisis.
The programme explored concrete actions as possible responses to the world’s challenges. Talks and visual presentations by members of Auroville included an audiovisual introduction to Auroville followed by such topics as educational tools for waste management, past and current collaborations and exchanges between Auroville and a wide range of institutions, as well as the personal experience of a volunteer from the Weltwaerts programme and a case study by a Master’s degree student of the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies in Potsdam, Germany. Mr. Hemant Lamba concluded the presentations with an invitation to the dignitaries to participate in celebrations during the Golden Jubilee year, the upcoming 50th Anniversary, in February 2018.
